Edwardsville ZIP Directory Evidence
Two five-digit codes surfaced in official research, but they do not have equal evidence. Current Edwardsville municipal addresses inspected use 62025. A 2011 Illinois Commerce Commission attachment also lists 62026 for Edwardsville. That older state document is a lead, not a live USPS boundary file, so every current address still needs postal verification.
| ZIP | Documented Edwardsville coverage | Post office evidence | Use note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 62025 | Current City Hall, library and department addresses inspected by the research | Current station assignment was not exposed in text capture | Check each full address and ZIP+4 with USPS |
| 62026 | Listed as Edwardsville in the dated Illinois Commerce Commission reference | Current station and exact coverage split were not located | Do not assign a campus, institution, or neighborhood meaning without live proof |
No authoritative current source captured a street-by-street split, PO-box-only designation, unique institutional assignment, or realignment history. The Edwardsville ZIP code directory therefore preserves those gaps. It does not borrow claims from a commercial ZIP site.
Verify Edwardsville ZIP Codes with USPS
The USPS ZIP Code Lookup is the current authority for postal form. Its By Address mode accepts an optional company, street, apartment or suite, city, state and ZIP. By City and State checks a city label. Cities by ZIP reverses the question and accepts a five-digit code.
| USPS mode | Fields used | Best Edwardsville task |
|---|---|---|
| By Address | Company, street, unit, city, state, ZIP | Standardize one complete address and retrieve ZIP+4 |
| By City and State | City and state | Review current codes associated with the postal city label |
| Cities by ZIP | Five-digit ZIP | Check the city names USPS associates with a code |
Include the unit when a building has suites or apartments. Multiple standardized matches can remain without it. Save the date because routing and ZIP+4 assignments can change. USPS warns that its answer does not confirm a person or company at the address.
Search Edwardsville Records by ZIP
A ZIP code directory can narrow the right portal, but only after its field labels are read closely. Madison County DEVNET has ZIP under owner and mailing-address criteria. It does not show a separate ZIP field under the parcel's site-address criteria. A ZIP search there therefore groups tax-bill destinations, not all parcels physically inside a postal area.
- Standardize the complete address with USPS and note the date.
- Check Edwardsville municipal context through City Maps and Madison County parcel geography.
- Use only the ZIP field that the chosen public portal actually exposes, and label whether it is mailing, site, voter, or registry data.
- Narrow from postal area to a full street and parcel, then verify any named relationship in a second official record.
Once the postal search reaches a street, the Edwardsville street directory handles the parcel and address chain in depth. A ZIP-wide name dump is neither necessary nor supported by the official sources.
Edwardsville ZIP Search Fields Differ
Several official systems display or accept a ZIP, but they answer different questions. The county voter-list output includes ZIP while public list modes run by district, township, or precinct. The ISP registry has a ZIP search field within its narrow statutory scope. FOIA portals collect the requester's ZIP, which is not a search filter for agency records.
| Official system | ZIP field behavior | What not to infer |
|---|---|---|
| DEVNET parcel search | Visible under owner/mailing address criteria | That every result is a parcel located inside the ZIP |
| Madison Voter Lists | ZIP appears in output; modes are district, township and precinct | That unrestricted ZIP-wide voter search is offered |
| ISP registry | ZIP is one search field with name, city, county and status controls | That the registry is a general resident directory |
| County or city FOIA form | ZIP belongs to requester contact information | That it filters the records requested |
| County GIS viewer | A ZIP layer or filter was not captured because the viewer failed | That a technical failure means the layer does not exist |
Read the result heading and field label before saving it. “Mailing ZIP,” “postal city,” and “site city” should never be collapsed into one location claim.
Edwardsville ZIPs Versus City Limits
ZIP codes route mail. Edwardsville city limits define municipal jurisdiction. Madison County parcels and PINs describe land, while wards and zoning maps divide the city for other public purposes. None of those boundaries is guaranteed to match a postal delivery area.
The official City Maps page supplies ward, zoning, park, TIF and other municipal context. County GIS can add parcel geography when its live viewer works. The research did not locate a complete current comparison between city lines and the two Edwardsville-associated codes, so a particular boundary question remains a live USPS, city and county check.
- ZIP code
- A five-digit USPS routing code, not a municipal boundary.
- ZIP+4
- Extra digits that narrow delivery-route detail for a full address.
- PO-box ZIP
- A code assigned for post-office-box delivery; no such Edwardsville designation was verified.
- Unique ZIP
- A code assigned to one high-volume organization; none was verified here.
- Carrier route
- A postal delivery sequence within a ZIP, distinct from a ward or parcel block.
Historic Edwardsville Predates ZIP Codes
Older Edwardsville directories, deeds, atlases and newspapers may name a street and city without any ZIP. Applying today's code to such a record is a modern aid, not a fact printed in the original. The city's documented ridge above Cahokia Creek, North Main corridor, civic core and South Buchanan landmarks give address context without pretending that a current postal area existed in the nineteenth century.
The official Historic Edwardsville page provides a sound starting point for that geographic context.

The captured city source helps place an old address in local history, while a current postal code must come from a current postal check.
Historical atlases, Sanborn maps, city directories and newspaper notices can bridge renamed or incomplete addresses. A complete local postal timeline was not located, so avoid assigning an early route or post office to a modern code without another dated authority.
Edwardsville ZIPs Are Not ZCTAs
Census figures for incorporated Edwardsville describe the city, not either ZIP area. The captured QuickFacts table reports 26,808 people in the 2020 census and a July 1, 2025 city estimate of 26,463. Those numbers cannot be labeled as 62025 or 62026 populations.
A ZIP Code Tabulation Area, or ZCTA, is a Census statistical geography built to approximate postal ZIP patterns for data. It is not a USPS delivery boundary. Label any ZCTA map with its year and source, and do not combine city, ZCTA and county totals as if they cover the same land.
Geography check. Compare the USPS address, Edwardsville city map, county parcel, and dated Census geography before attaching a statistic to a ZIP.
Edwardsville ZIP Records by Request
A defined address map, city project, permit, archive item, or public filing may be available even when no portal accepts ZIP. Edwardsville's city FOIA form asks for requester contact details, a specific record, delivery choice and signature. It states that the first 50 black-and-white pages are free and later pages may cost up to $0.15 each.
Review the official Edwardsville FOIA request fields before submitting a narrow address request.

The form is a fallback for an existing city record, not a way to make the city create a ZIP-wide resident list.
County records use the Madison County Public Records Center. Requests may themselves become public, and Illinois FOIA exemptions still apply.
Use the county center only for a defined Madison County record.

The separate city and county routes reflect the fact that postal labels do not decide which government keeps a record.
Edwardsville ZIPs and Civic Records
A city department record can confirm the agency, project, date, or public official connected to an Edwardsville location. It is not a private household directory. The official staff directory provides municipal contacts and routes a requester to the clerk, planning, police records, or another department.
Open the current Edwardsville staff and department directory for the correct city contact.

The captured directory helps choose a custodian after postal and municipal geography have been separated.
Madison County election history offers contests, questions, candidates, voters and documents for civic research. Its geography and dates belong with each result, and aggregate election data should not be turned into a private-person list.
Consult the official Madison County election-history database for dated civic records.

This countywide source adds civic context, but it does not replace USPS or prove an individual's address.
Use Edwardsville ZIP Results Narrowly
A postal code should never become a bulk resident list. Public systems carry different dates, purposes, redactions and use rules. Voter data has political-purpose restrictions. Registry data carries a misuse warning. Tax mailing addresses may lead outside the parcel's physical ZIP. Historical sources may predate the ZIP system entirely.
For a defensible ZIP code directory entry, save the full source URL, lookup date, field label, and geography type. Redact names and full addresses from examples unless they are necessary and lawful. If a city label, parcel municipality and postal result disagree, preserve the disagreement and ask the proper custodian.
Postal limits. Use ZIP results for lawful address and records research, never to stalk, harass, threaten, or publish a bulk list of people.
